PHOSSCON – India’s 1st Paediatric Haematology Oncology Support Services Conference

November 3rd to 5th 2016 in Mumbai, India

For 20 years PHOCON (Paediatric Haematology Oncology Conference) has been taking place in India. PHOCON is an annual conference which brings together over 500 professionals, including Paediatric Oncologists, Medical Oncologists, Paediatricians, Paediatric Surgeons, Radiation Oncologists, Pathologists, Basic Scientists, students and fellows from various parts of the country in the field of Paediatric Haematology-Oncology. The guest faculty includes distinguished national and international experts in the field. PHOCON this year will be held in Tata Medical Hospital from 4th to 6th November 2016.

In November 2015, CanKidsKidsCan, India (a CCI member and Anchor organization for Asia) was invited by the Executive Body of the Pediatric Hematology Oncology chapter (PHO) of The Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) to create and organize, for the first time, a parallel track for social support services and organizations . The aim is for this to be an annual feature of PHOCON and to become a distinct conference track akin to the annual Childhood Cancer International (CCI) conference track in the SIOP (International Society of Paediatric Oncology) regional and international Conferences.

The 3 days PHOSSCON starts with a pre-conference on Pediatric Psycho-Oncology, followed by a 2 day conference which is marked with ground breaking keynote speeches, with an international and national faculty, interactive panel discussions, award winning abstract presentations, poster sessions, plenary dialogues . The expected attendees for this conference are decision makers in Social Support Organizations, doctors, medical professionals, scientists and researchers interested in or involved in social support, supportive care and outreach, philanthropists and donors.

lebanon_mothers_day_2016For Mothers’ Day, celebrated in Lebanon on March 21, more than 400 moms gathered in a big event organized by CHANCE (CHildren AgaiNst CancEr), a Lebanese association that has been helping children/adolescent cancer patients for the last 14 years.

The President of CHANCE, Doctor Roula Farah (seen in picture), paid tribute to the moms who are always present by their sick children’s side giving them unconditional love and support.

Dr Farah also sang with the invitees and a few sick children, the CCI anthem, “We Are One”. This song was specially written by the team behind the Disney movie “Frozen”, on the occasion of the International Childhood Cancer Day. CHANCE has now translated this into Arabic and its youtube has garnered many following.

The event was a huge success and all moms left loaded with gifts offered by faithful sponsors. They were full of satisfaction, love and joy because having CHANCE by their side, means never feeling alone, as one battles cancer and hope for a happy future with their children with cancer.
