We celebrated childhood cancer survivors with two successful webinars focused on "Childhood Cancer Stigma and Communications"

We are delighted to share with you that, together with the International Society of Paediatric Oncology (SIOP), on June 29th we celebrated our community of childhood cancer survivors. We brought together professionals and young people cured of cancer to highlight the challenges and successes in this global topic.

To address this year's theme: “Childhood Cancer Stigma and Communications”,  we held two open webinars for our community which tackled different issues related to childhood cancer and survivorship. Almost 300 people from 45 different countries joined us to discuss this significant topic for the childhood cancer community.

The first webinar, held at 11:00 AM Australia time, featured presentations by Alejandra Méndez, Vice President of Childhood Cancer International; Dylan Graetz, MD, MPH, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital | St. Jude Global; Mahati Chittem, PhD, Associate Professor of Health & Medical Psychology, Department of Liberal Arts, Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH); and Chandan Kumar and Winnie Foo, childhood cancer survivors from India and Malaysia.

The second webinar, held at 4:00 PM Netherlands time, featured presentations by Dr. Yamini Krishnan, Dr. Mara Ayala, Dr. Anna Sonkin, MD, and Criss Koba Mjumbe, MD, PhD, and included a roundtable discussion with survivors from Guatemala, Lebanon, Morocco, and Romania.

These were unique opportunities for our community to reflect on the stigmas that cancer survivors face, and to reconsider the language we use when talking about the disease. During both sessions, experiences were shared, dialogue was generated, and attendees' questions were answered.

Thank you for registering and participating in our 2024 International Childhood Cancer Survivors Week’s webinars. Watch the webinars here:
